Swordtail Care Guide
The Swordtail (Xiphophorus hellerii) is a beginner-level freshwater aquarium resident from Mexico, Central America. It reaches about 4.7 inches and should be kept in tanks of at least 30 gallons.
Keep water near pH 7-8.3, temperature 72-82F, and hardness 8-25 dH. Feed omnivore, flakes, vegetables with 1-2 small feedings daily.
Swordtails prefer harder, more alkaline water than many soft-water fish. They are usually peaceful but should not be kept with fin nippers or fish large enough to eat them.
