The Apistogramma (Apistogramma cacatuoides) is a intermediate-level freshwater aquarium resident from Peru, Brazil. It reaches about 3.1 inches and should be kept in tanks of at least 20 gallons.
Keep water near pH 5.5-7.5, temperature 75-82F, and hardness 3-14 dH. Feed omnivore, cichlid pellets, frozen food with 1-2 small feedings daily.
Apistogrammas need tank mates chosen around temperament, territory, and adult size. Provide line-of-sight breaks and avoid fish small enough to be swallowed.
