Axolotl Care Guide
The Axolotl (Ambystoma mexicanum) is a advanced-level freshwater aquarium resident from Captive care. It reaches about 0.4 inches and should be kept in tanks of at least 29 gallons.
Keep water near pH 6.8-8, temperature 61-64F, and hardness 4-15 dH. Feed carnivore, frozen food, live food with 1-2 small feedings daily.
Axolotls require cold water and usually should not be mixed with fish. Warm community tanks are unsuitable and small fish can be eaten.
